What are signs your website is outdated or holding you back?

Short answer

Your website holds you back when it loads slowly, works poorly on phones or hides the phone number. Looking dated or bringing visits without calls are signs too. Old photos, broken forms and missing tracking count as well. Stanford's credibility research found that people judge a site's trust by its look alone.

Why looks still matter

Stanford's Web Credibility Project found that people quickly judge a site by its visual design alone. Its guidelines also ask sites to show a real organization, make contact easy and avoid errors of any kind. An outdated look, a typo or a dead link costs trust before anyone reads your offer.

Fix or rebuild?

Not every sign needs a redesign. A slow site may only need image and hosting fixes. A missing phone button is a quick edit. A full rebuild makes sense when several signs show up together and the site is hard to change.

Good example. A roofing service page names the service and city and shows recent project photos and reviews. Tap-to-call buttons sit at the top and bottom.

Bad example. A homepage says "quality service you can trust," uses stock images, hides the phone number and lists every service in one paragraph.

Recommended action. Start with the pages that bring the most money, usually the homepage and top service pages. Fix the headline, phone layout, call button, proof and speed first.
