The three terms side by side
| Term | What it is | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Website | Every page under your domain | yourbusiness.com and all its pages |
| Webpage | One page with its own URL | /services/termite-treatment/ |
| Landing page | A webpage built for one campaign and one action | /offers/spring-termite-inspection/ |
Think of an office. The website is the whole building. A webpage is one room. A landing page is a front desk set up for one kind of visitor.
Which one to build
- Build a website when you need a complete home for your services, proof and contact paths.
- Build a webpage when you need to explain one service, place, person or question.
- Build a landing page when one campaign needs one message and one action.
Search engines rank webpages, not websites as a whole. A strong site is a set of strong pages, each answering one search well.
The mistake that wastes ad spend
Sending ads to the homepage is the most common mix-up. The visitor clicked a specific promise and lands on a general page. Google Ads judges how relevant and useful a landing page is to the ad. A vague destination can raise your costs and lose the lead.
Good example. An ad for a car accident consultation leads to a page about car accident cases, with matching reviews and a two-field form.
Bad example. The same ad leads to a broad practice areas page with six areas and no form above the fold.
How to tell which pages work
In GA4, compare key events by landing page to see which pages produce leads. Search Console shows which webpages earn impressions and clicks from search. Compare them before you build more.
Read landing page design vs a full website. Our landing page design team builds pages matched to each ad.
