How to find roofing SEO keywords

In short

Find roofing SEO keywords by listing your services and the areas you serve, then checking real search volumes in Google's Keyword Planner. Group the keywords so each service gets one page. In Google Ads data, "roof repair" draws 90,500 US searches a month, and storm damage searches jump in summer.

Most roofing websites target the same handful of words, like "roofing company" and the city name. That leaves dozens of valuable searches to competitors. Homeowners search for roof leaks, storm damage, metal roofs and inspections, each in their own words.

This guide shows how to find those keywords and turn them into a page plan. Every volume below is a US monthly average, taken from Google Ads Keyword Planner across the year that ended in September 2026.

Start with your services and service area

Keyword tools work best when you feed them a list. Write down every job you want more of, then every city and town you actually serve.

  • Repairs, such as leaks, storm damage and emergency tarping.
  • Replacements, such as shingle, metal and tile roofs.
  • Commercial work, such as flat roofs, TPO and roof coatings.
  • Add-ons, such as gutters, skylights and ventilation.

Leave out any service you don't want to sell. A page that ranks for work you turn down brings calls you can't use.

Roofing keywords and their search volume

Here's how much US homeowners and property managers search for common roofing services each month. The cost per click is what advertisers pay for one visit, which is a good sign of how valuable each search is.

KeywordUS searches a monthCost per click
roof repair90,500$40.31
metal roofing90,500$8.11
gutter installation40,500$27.33
roof replacement33,100$31.33
roof inspection33,100$36.30
roof leak repair27,100$36.08
tpo roofing27,100$9.28
roof replacement cost18,100$20.12
commercial roofing18,100$31.16
emergency roof repair8,100$51.52
storm damage roof repair4,400$32.97
roof estimate2,400$56.76

Two patterns stand out. Repair and estimate searches carry the highest costs per click, because the person is ready to hire. Product searches like "metal roofing" and "tpo roofing" are large but cheaper, since many come from people still researching. Until a page ranks, Google Ads for roofing companies can buy the repair and estimate searches.

Group keywords into one page per service

Don't build a separate page for every keyword variant. Google rewards a page that fully answers a need, so group close keywords on one page.

PageKeywords it targets
Roof repairroof repair, roof leak repair, roof leak, emergency roof repair
Roof replacementroof replacement, roof replacement cost, new roof cost, insurance roof replacement
Storm damagestorm damage roof repair, hail damage roof repair, roof inspection
Metal roofingmetal roofing, metal roof installation
Commercial roofingcommercial roofing, tpo roofing, flat roof repair, roof coating
Guttersgutter installation, plus gutter repair and guards

Each page needs real detail, such as materials you install, your warranty, photos of your own jobs and answers to the questions homeowners ask. That's what lets a page rank and turn visits into leads, not the keyword count.

Where each keyword goes on the page

Once a page has its main keyword, put it where Google and readers look first. That's on-page SEO, and it takes ten minutes per page.

  • Title tag, with the keyword first and your city after it.
  • H1 heading, in plain words, such as "Roof Repair in Tampa."
  • URL, kept short and readable, such as /roof-repair/ or /metal-roofing/.
  • First paragraph, where the reader confirms they're on the right page.
  • Subheadings, for the close variants, such as leak repair or flashing repair.

Question keywords work differently. Searches like "how much does a new roof cost" suit blog posts that answer the question. Each post then links to the matching service page. They bring readers months before they need a roofer, which builds roofing SEO beyond your service pages.

Near me and city keywords

The biggest roofing searches carry no city at all. "Roofers near me" and "roofing companies near me" each draw about 165,000 US searches a month. Google answers them with the map results, based on your Business Profile, distance and reviews.

So don't stuff "near me" or "roof repair near me" into your pages. Instead, keep your Business Profile complete and build steady reviews. Then add a page for each main city you serve. Fill it with local detail, such as common roof types, local codes and recent jobs there. In roofing web design, each city page gets its own photos and reviews from that town.

Plan for storm season

Roofing searches change with the weather. Searches for "storm damage roof repair" stayed between 1,900 and 2,900 a month from October 2025 through February 2026. They hit 9,900 in July and again in September.

When to publish storm content
  1. WinterWrite the pagesDraft storm, hail and emergency repair pages while work is slow.
  2. SpringPublish and linkGo live early, so Google has time to find and rank the pages.
  3. SummerAdd fresh proofPost photos of recent storm jobs as calls start to rise.
  4. FallReview resultsCheck Search Console for the storm queries that brought calls.

Pages published the week a storm hits often come too late. Google needs time to crawl and rank them, so plan a season ahead. Storm months differ by region, so set Keyword Planner's location to your state and check your own peaks.

Free tools to find more roofing keywords

You don't need paid tools to start. These free sources cover most of what a roofing company needs.

  • Google Keyword Planner shows volume and cost per click once you sign in to Google Ads.
  • Google Search Console lists the searches that already show your site in results.
  • Google's autocomplete suggests the phrases people type after "roof" or "roofing."
  • People also ask boxes show the questions to answer on each page.

Keyword Planner shows exact numbers only to accounts with steady ad spend, and others see ranges such as 1K to 10K. Search Console shows queries where you appear on page two, which are often the fastest wins for better local rankings.

Our roofing SEO team turns this keyword data into one page per service and town.

Common questions about roofing keywords

What is the best keyword for a roofing company?

There's no single best one. "Roof repair" has high volume and strong buyer intent, so most roofers should build their strongest page around it.

Should I put "near me" in my page titles?

No. Google matches "near me" searches to your location and Business Profile, not to the words on your page.

How many keywords should one page target?

One main service per page, with its close variations, so each page has one clear topic to rank for.
