What it should include
| Part | The question it answers |
|---|---|
| Goal | What business result should social bring? |
| Audience | Who do you want to reach, and where? |
| Platforms | Which one or two apps do they use most? |
| Content themes | What will you post about, again and again? |
| Roles | Who creates, posts, replies and approves? |
| Measurement | Which numbers show progress each month? |
Build it in four steps
- GoalPick one result, like more booking requests.
- AudienceDescribe your best customers in plain words.
- PlanChoose platforms, themes and a posting rhythm.
- MeasureSet the numbers you will review monthly.
Keep it short and real
People actually use a strategy that fits on one or two pages. Base the platform choice on your audience. Nationally, YouTube and Facebook reach the most US adults, at 84% and 71% in Pew's 2025 survey. Instagram reaches 80% of adults aged 18 to 29. Your own customers matter more than national averages, so ask them.
Good example. A pest control company writes a one-page plan. The goal is spring inquiries, on Facebook, with weekly job videos and seasonal tips.
Bad example. A company copies a 40-page template with goals for every platform. Nobody reads it, and posting stays random.
Next, pick your platforms. Our social media marketing starts with this plan.
